(Note: On this page the word Course refers to both full courses and CPD workshops/seminars)

The following Terms refer to any agreement between prospective students and the Active School of Complementary Therapy (ASCT/our/us/we). They apply to all applications for a course and any subsequent financial matters arising from that application.

Applicants for any ASCT course must be aged 21 years or over (we will accept applications from prospective students aged 18-21 years, however acceptance on any course will be subject to an interview).

All application requests must be submitted using an official Application Pack.

An appropriate deposit must be made to secure a place on any course (see individual course details).

Note: we do not make unsecured provisional bookings. In order to secure a booking payment must be received by our office before any application is processed. Bookings are processed on a first come first serve basis.

Places on courses will not be confirmed until both application form and payment (deposit or in full) have been received by the office.

An application is not deemed complete until we have confirmed that a place is available and the applicant has made a payment.

ASCT has the right to refuse any application.

Once students begin any course they will be liable for the full fee whether they graduate or not.

Special Note:  If, at any stage, prior to commencing a course, applicants wish to cancel their enrolment, they must notify ASCT and return any materials received. We will then refund any monies paid, subject to our standard Cancellation Policy. Applicants must also cancel any Standing Order with their bank. Prepaid sessions will not be refunded.

Course Cancellation

If any student cancels their course prior to the start date, we will refund the amount they paid less a Cancellation fee (see below). Full refunds will only be paid as per Active Recovery’s General Refund Policy (see above).

Students may cancel or withdraw from a course at any time.

Application/attendance to any course may be suspended for up to one year (see below).

Students may be allowed to transfer to another course, subject to availability, or to transfer a booking to another person free of charge, if you give ASCT four or more weeks’ notice.

ASCT will refund all monies paid, less fees for completed sessions and cancellation (see below), to any student who withdraws from a course once it has commenced.

Cancellation Fees

The following penalties apply for cancellations and/or withdrawals:

For cancellations made more than six weeks before the course start date, we will refund the deposit less a 5% admin charge levied on monies paid.

If a legitimate reason can be provided*, there will be no penalty bar the 5% admin charge on any monies paid. However, subsequent cancellation/withdrawal from any other course will incur a forfeit of all monies paid.

For cancellations made within six weeks of the course start date, we will refund the deposit less a 20% admin charge levied on monies paid.

For any other withdrawal from the course the admin charge is 50%.

If there is a failure to pay the balance of the Standard deposit after the six-week cut-off, or a failure to notify us of cancellation then any deposit paid is not refundable.

In the event of withdrawal once the course has commenced the student will remain liable for full payment of the course fee. However, the School will refund any amount paid less a Cancellation fee (see above) and payment for any sessions attended.

In the event of the School cancelling a course all monies received (including the deposit) will be repaid.

Refund of the full amount paid will only be granted if: a) the course is full or b) the application is turned down or c) we are notified of cancellation within seven working days of receipt of payment of a booking/standard deposit or full fee as per our standard Refund Policy (above). In the latter case (c) please notify us by phone or email

All other requests for cancellation/refund, suspension, or transfer must be put in writing to ASCT.

Suspension of Course Fees

Any monies paid prior to a request for course suspension will be held for up to one year, after which any unused fees will be forfeit.

Assessment Cancellation

As ASCT is obliged to pay for external Assessors, if any student wishes to rearrange their assessment date the following penalties will apply:

For rearrangement requests made more than three weeks before the assessment date, we will allow a free transfer to an alternate date (this will be confirmed subject to availability).

For rearrangement requests made less than three weeks before the assessment date (excluding theory papers), we charge a £50 administration fee, unless medical certification is provided whereby the charge is £30.

Re-sitting an assessment incurs a separate fee (available on request).

NB. ASCT is under no obligation to offer a transfer or refund of any monies paid in respect of deposits or full course fees.

* Personal Health Note

At the time of enrolment, applicants should have no health condition that could be affected or worsened by the requirements of the course for which they are applying, nor should they be awaiting hospital admission or taking medication that could be contraindicated. If in doubt in any aspect please check with a GP. The School cannot refund fees if the termination is due to a known health condition becoming worse or a hospital place becoming available.

If students have to cancel or terminate due to bereavement of a close family member, or serious ill-health (unknown at the commencement of the course), a doctor's certificate of inability to continue will be required.
